The word "czar" has long troubled me whenever it is used in relation to the government of the United States.

I'm glad you point out that these people are not elected and have virtually no accountability; in various settings, historically, such arrangements have led to abuse.

Moreover, the sheer number of these "czars" is a reminder that the American federal government has expanded beyond the wildest dreams of the Founding Fathers. Sadly, our federal institutions now regularly use the seemingly infinitely-expandable "Commerce Clause" of the Constitution, along with economic coercion made possible by the federal income tax, to dictate many policies at the state and local levels. Decisions that would be better made locally are too often imposed from a source of power thousands of miles away from some of the people who will have to live with the consequences of those decisions.

I'm glad to see your blog; you're posting about issues that are, or ought to be, important to every man, woman, and child in the USA. Thanks.
